Travelling to Arequipa
Getting to Arequipa by Air
Arequipa's airport is about 8km northwest of the city center. LAN has daily flights to and from Lima and Cuzco and Aero Condor Peru offers inexpensive flights to Tacna near the Chilean border. Flights from Lima take one hour and from Cusco 45 minutes. Taca Air and Aviandina also have daily flights to Arequipa. Be sure to confirm your flight and arrive two hours ahead of time because schedules have been known to change frequently.
Getting to Arequipa by Bus
Although buses are a cheap and convenient way to get to Arequipa, they are often not safe, so it is recommended to fly if you can afford it. If you're coming from Argentina or Chile Ormeno bus company has two buses a week to and from Santiago, which takes 2 and 1/2 days and three buses a week to and from Buenos Aires that takes 3 days.
Cruz del Sur is another company with daily service from Lima, which takes 14 hours and Cusco, a 10 hour ride.

Getting to Arequipa by Train
Perurail offers rides through the beautiful altiplano region for large groups, but the services between Arequipa, Juliaca and Puno have been suspended due to earthquake damage.

You can take a taxi to the city center for about US 4.20 or take a shared taxi (colectivo) for about half the price.
Getting around Arequipa
You can rent bicycles at Andes Bike at Villalba 414, which is a fun way to get around the city for sightseeing. Buses are also available for cheap that go south along Bolivar to Terminal Terrestre for about sixty cents. Taxis are also a great option and are often cheaper than renting a car. Two local companies are Presidencial Express and Ideal Taxi.
