Hotel Monasterio
As the name implies, this 5 star hotel was once a monastery that was built in 1592 on the place of Inca Aman Qhala. In 1598, it was discovered as the Seminary of San Antonio Abad by the sixth bishop of Cusco. The hotel, built over 300 years ago, is a national historical landmark protected by the National Institute of Culture (INC) and despite an earthquake, preserves some of its unique and original features. One of these, a 300 year old Cedar tree, sits in the central courtyard as the heart of the monastery. Sitting among this tree in the courtyard is a fountain and the yard is surrounded by gardens and famous large stone cloisters.
True to the theme of the city, the Monastery aims to provide visitors with the luxury and comfort of the modern hotel while allowing them to visit and enjoy the ambiance of the past. Comprised of 126 rooms, the Monastery has rooms to fit a variety of travel and luxury needs including 17 Standard Rooms, 91 Deluxe Rooms, 12 Junior Suites, 1 Deluxe Suite, 3 Presidential Suites and 2 Royal Suites. Price of each room reflects the added amenities and accommodations that more luxurious rooms offer. Unique to the Monastery, 86 rooms offer oxygen enriched rooms that pump oxygen directly into the room to help patrons become accustomed to the altitude. All rooms come equipped with central heating, air conditioning, cable TV, a mini bar, hot water, laundry service and a personal safe.
The Hotel Monasterio offers several options for dining and cocktail entertainment. The Illariy Restaurant provides an intimate setting which looks directly on the gardens of the courtyard. Offering a wide selection of Peruvian cuisine mixed with international dinners, the elegance of meals mixed with the beauty of scenery provides a lunch or dinner that will truly be extravagant. El Tupay Restaurant offers a breakfast buffet that fills the stomachs of all visitors with an assortment of stands, meals, and fruits to keep the morning-snacker full. Additionally, the Tupay offers an Inca dinner which not only features unique Inca cuisine, but the hypnotic rhythms and mysterious rituals that characterize the tribe. A lobby bar also provides cocktails of choice as well as Peruvian classics to sip on while enjoying the sounds, sights, and views of this historic yet luxurious museum-like hotel.
