Visas: Visitors from the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand require only a passport and a return ticket to enter the country and will be issued a 60-day visa upon arrival.
Time: Eastern Standard Time (EST) plus one or two hours since Peru does not observe daylight-savings time.
Weights & Measures: The metric system is used for distances and measures. Weights are measured in kilograms (1kg = 2.2 pounds).
Electricity: 220V, 50Hz.
Taxes: The sales tax, known as impuesto general a las ventas, is 18%, and excludes items purchased at open-air markets and street vendors.
Telephones: The country code for Peru is 51. To call Peru directly, dial 011 followed by the country code, then the city code, and then the number of the person you are calling. For international calls dial 00, then 1 for the US and Canada and 44 for the UK. Dial 108 for the operator if you need assistance.
