For those particularly interested in the ancient archaeological sites of the Pre-Columbian cultures, the sites in the area surrounding Trujillo demonstrate the rich history of these cultures that inhabited this area so long ago. Sites such as El Brujo and the Temple of the Sun and the Moon still remain remarkably well intact and serve as some of the most impressive examples of the achievements of these cultures. The Temples in particular are still being excavated and continue to offer visitors new information about the lives of these ancient peoples. Much of the artwork displayed upon the architecture depicts scenes that allow visitors insight into the aspects of life that were most valued during these times.
Trujillo's surrounding attractions demonstrate the lifestyles and interests of the people of the area, past and present. Huanchaco beach allows visitors a view of modern-day living which still maintains many of the traditions of the past with a sense of pride not often seen today. Many of these sites are within an hour and a half of Trujillo and are accessible via taxis or buses available in Trujillo for various rates.
