Ed Sheeran jumped on a remix of Fireboy DML’s hit “Peru,” which the Nigerian singer released last summer. The couple also shared their new remix video on Christmas Eve.
Sheeran previously teased the collaboration in an interview with Elton John (via NME), revealing that after hearing the single ‘Earworm’, âI recorded a verse for it⦠and it’s a song that’s exploding in Nigeria and Ghana right now and their club scene is set over Christmas. So basically you put a song at the club in mid-December, which would seem like a weird thing to do in England. “
âIt has been a dream to know that Ed Sheeran is a fan of my sound and to blow it up on a song that was inspired by my travels around the world,â Fireboy DML said in a statement.
âNot only is this an exciting time for me, but also for the Afrobeats. Hope this is the first of many collaborations with Ed and other artists around the world, and I can’t wait for everyone to enjoy this song over the holidays.
The Peruvian government also tweeted in favor of the collaboration:
PERU PARA, PERU PERU PARA !!! ??
Seems to be @edsheeran and @fireboydml were inspired by our country to launch their new hit? Have you ever listened to it? It’s called “Peru” and it sounds really catchy! https://t.co/CVMOrPEW9L# MarcaPerú #Peru #EdSheeran
