Ferrovial, through its subsidiary Construction, won a contract for the construction of 29.7 kilometers of motorway between the departments of Ancash and La Libertad, in Peru. The project, which will be undertaken in consortium with Acciona, amounts to 116 million dollars (equivalent to approximately 100 million euros).

It consists of building a two-lane highway as an extension of the existing Pan-American highway, three roundabouts, eight level crossings and ancillary roads, and the replacement of irrigation systems.

Completed in 24 months, this new stretch of road is expected not only to improve communications in the region and ensure reliable travel times, but also have a positive impact on road safety and the environment by reducing vehicle emissions.

Continued progress with the company’s Horizon 24 plan

This contract is an important step in Ferrovial’s Horizon 24 plan, in which it has designated Peru as one of its main geographic areas and a priority for the development, construction and management of sustainable infrastructure.

It follows on from the contract obtained last year for the construction of the control tower and six annex buildings at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Ferrovial’s first contract in Peru.

Local engagement

Since 2011, Ferrovial has implemented nine projects in Peru as part of its “Social Infrastructure” program, which represents an investment of over 1.3 million euros in the country. More than 29,000 people have benefited from these initiatives.

“Social infrastructure” is a development cooperation program whose objective is to improve and extend the coverage and access to drinking water and basic sanitation among socially vulnerable groups.
