The regulation authorizing the gradual increase in the number of visitors to the Llaqta (Inca citadel) of Machu Picchu – jewel in the crown of tourist sites in Peru – has been formalized by the Ministry of Culture.

The document indicates that said increase will be dealt with in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. 173-2020-MC, under the conditions provided for in the complementary assessment report on the increase in the number of visitors to the Llaqta of Machu Picchu.

As we know, Resolution 173-2020-MC – promulgated in July of last year – established that the maximum capacity would be 2,244 visitors per day.

In addition, ministerial resolution n ° 000263-2021-DM / MC specifies that the Ministry of Culture has been responsible for preparing a technical report to assess the increase in the number of visitors to the Inca citadel.

In this sense, the Decentralized Direction of Culture (DDC) of Cusco has prepared the “Evaluation report on the increase in the limit of visitors to the Llaqta de Machu Picchu” and the “Complementary evaluation report on the increase in the limit of visitors to the Llaqta de Machu Picchu. “

Both reports foresee the possibility of gradually increasing the number of visitors to Peru’s main tourist destination.

However, the documents make this measure conditional on the implementation of the following alternative access routes: Mount Machu Picchu, Mount Wayna Picchu, Mount Huchuy Picchu and the Inca Trail network n ° 4.
