(Peru, Neb.) – On Saturday, October 16, the Peru State Bobcats would claim their fifth victory of the season after shutting out Clarke University 20-0. The ‘Cats would rise to 5-2 on aggregate and 1-0 in the North Division of the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Clarke would fall to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
It would be the Bobcats’ first shutout of the season. The state of Peru would retain home ground advantage after winning their fourth straight home game of the season. The Bobcats are currently on a three-game winning streak.
The State of Peru also welcomed the new class inducted into the Hall of Fame at halftime.
This game would be a brawl to open the game as both teams would struggle to do anything in the first quarter as both defenses played the lights.
Peru State would eventually enter the board with 26 seconds left until halftime with a three-yard touchdown taken by Quinton Hawkins (Richmond, Virginia). Shane McInerney (Galway, Ireland) would make the PAT as the ‘Cats would lead 7-0 at the end of 30 minutes.
Peru State would extend their lead with 7:14 left in the third quarter with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Joey dominguez (Von Ormy, Texas) To Garry Fleming (St. Petersburg, Florida) because McInerney would make his second PAT of the match. The Bobcats would lead 14-0.
With 37 seconds remaining in the third quarter, McInerney posted a 22-yard field goal to make it 17-14 for Peru State.
McInerney would add a 40-yard field goal to go up 20-0. The Bobcats’ defense would be able to keep the shutout alive as the offense would have run out of time to claim the victory inside the Oak Bowl.
Defensively as a team, the Bobcats were strong. They limited the pride to just 47 total attacking yards, including 33 on a pass.
Dominguez would throw for 117 yards and throw a score on 17 of 25 passes.
Hawkins had 20 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown. Ki’Jana Owens (North Platte) would have 10 carries for 25 yards and Dominguez added 14 carries for 25 yards.
Dremel jackson (Kansas City, Missouri) caught four catches for 45 yards. Fleming would have four catches for 31 yards and a receiving touchdown.
McInerney would make his two field goals and two extra points to stay perfect over the year in both categories.
Travis Roseau (Hickman) would have eight tackles in total – including five solos. Reed made two tackles for a four-yard loss.
Deiontay Dozier (Meza, Arizona) added five tackles – two solos. Michel lombardi (Peru) would record five assisted tackles.
Clay mockingbird (Mandeville, Louisiana) would have two solo tackles and three assisted tackles.
Craig jones (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) would have three solo tackles and would have the only interception for the Bobcats for 29 back yards.
The state of Peru will be back on the road as it travels to Oskaloosa, Iowa, to take on William Penn University. The statesmen are 1-6 overall and 0-1 in Heart North.
